چکیده
Cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum L.) presence in the Great Basin is associated with an increase fire frequency and size, likely due to increased spatial continuity of fine fuel biomass. Measurements extent cover cheatgrass are steadily improving, but strength relationship between aboveground biomass (AGB) unclear. An allometric equation that can reliably convert AGB would allow for improved incorporation regional estimates into models activity, carbon storage, net primary productivity, all which rely on We measured at 60 locations north-central used these measurements model relationship. found a strong, linear percent AGB, was after square root transformation both incorporating number days peak NDVI were measured. These results show be estimated from cover. It equations based will effective other grass species, care must taken account phenology (e.g., NDVI) estimation.

What Makes Great Basin Sagebrush Ecosystems Invasible by Bromus Tectorum?
Ecosystem susceptibility to invasion by nonnative species is poorly understood, but evidence is increasing that spatial and temporal variability in resources has large-scale effects. We conducted a study in Artemisia tridentata ecosystems at two Great Basin locations examining differences in resource availability and invasibility of Bromus tectorum over elevation gradients and in response to di...

A prominent goal of invasive plant management is to prevent or reduce the spread of invasive species into uninvaded landscapes and regions. Monitoring and control efforts often rely on scientific knowledge of suitable habitat for the invasive species. However, rising temperatures and altered precipitation projected with climate change are likely to shift the geographic range of that suitable ha...
متن کاملImproved allometric models to estimate the aboveground biomass of tropical trees.
Terrestrial carbon stock mapping is important for the successful implementation of climate change mitigation policies. Its accuracy depends on the availability of reliable allometric models to infer oven-dry aboveground biomass of trees from census data. The degree of uncertainty associated with previously published pantropical aboveground biomass allometries is large. We analyzed a global data...
متن کاملExotic annual grass invasion alters fuel amounts, continuity and moisture content
Many exotic annual grasses are believed to increase wildfire frequency to the detriment of native vegetation by increasing fine fuels and thus, creating a grass-fire cycle. However, information on differences in fuel characteristics between invaded and non-invaded plant communities is lacking, or is basedmainly on speculation and anecdotal evidence. We compared fuel biomass, cover, continuity a...
